The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) has started a multilateral exercise, codenamed Ex. Bersama Shield 2016 or also known as Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA), in the South China Sea and airspace over Malaysia Penisular.
Ex. Bersama Shield is an annual multilateral major exercise combining land, air and maritime between Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. This is part of the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) which as established in 1971. The annual exercises continue to enhance regional security and stability, and have also evolved to meet
the changing security needs of the region by building capability in maritime security and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations.
The scale of this exercise is huge, involving more than 2000 personnel, 4 ships and around 50 aircraft from the FPDA member-nations. Even Singapore Changi Airport airspace will be closed for 30 minutes on a particular day.
Exercise Bersama Shield, which takes place from 17-29 April 2016, hosted by Malaysia.
In the past exercises, RSAF has deployed F-15SG, F-16C/D and F-16D+ fighter aircraft. Two Fokker-50 Maritime Patrol Aircraft; a Chinook helicopter; a Super Puma helicopter;
a G550 Airborne Early Warning aircraft; a KC-135 Stratotanker; and a Surface-to-air PYthon-5 and DERby (SPYDER) and two I-HAWK GBAD systems.
This year, MAphotoSG team was out and about on Saturday (23 Apr) and Sunday (24 Apr) to catch some actions!
All RSAF F-15SG are attached with addition fuel tanks for the exercise.
F-16s are fully equipped as well.
