The 2-day event is organised by the RSAF as part of this year’s RSAF50 celebrations to thank Singaporeans for their strong support over the last 50 years. Members of the public are encouraged to join in the celebrations at Marina Barrage, and to come dressed in blue, which represents the skies that the RSAF protects. In addition to the aerial displays, there will be ground activities such as RSAF photo booths for families and kids and roving DJs from Power 98FM.

In addition, the Families for Life will be partnering with the RSAF in a “Celebrating RSAF50” Picnic event at the Marina Barrage on 11 Aug, with Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Desmond Lee, as the Guest of Honour. This free event (excluding on location food and drink purchases) will have activities such as family art jamming and sand art making, parachute and plane making crafts, and bouncy castles. Attendees can also complete the picnic experience by leaving a message on the Family Time Pledge Wall. For more details and information on this event, please visit www.familiesforlife.sg.

Aerial Display Lineup

The aerial display will be made up of three segments: the Sequential Flypast, the Helicopter and Fighter Aerial Displays, and the Finale Bomb Burst. The Sequential Flypast segment will start with a flypast by the Heron 1 UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), which will be making its first public appearance at such an event. Following the UAV, four Diamond DA40s from the Singapore Youth Flying Club (SYFC) will perform a diamond formation flypast.

The RSAF helicopters will be up next, with an arrowhead formation of CH-47D Chinook, AH-64D Apache Longbows, AS332M Super Pumas and S-70B Seahawk. The C-130H Hercules and Fokker 50 MPAs wave will be next, followed by the KC-135R Stratotanker and G550 CAEW wave flanked by two F-16D Fighting Falcons. Bringing up the rear will be a delta formation of six F-15SG Strike Eagles, bringing their speed and sounds to the audience as they fly past low overhead.

Speaking after the preview, Chief of Air Force MG Tan said, “The RSAF50@Marina Barrage is part of a range of activities that the RSAF has organised to commemorate the 50th anniversary of our Air Force. We hope that Singaporeans have enjoyed events such as RSAF50@Singapore Airshow 18 and RSAF50@Heartlands. These events were designed to reach out and thank Singaporeans for their support for our Air Force through the years. Our RSAF team will put up an aerial display at Marina Barrage this weekend. We hope that Singaporeans will enjoy the show and continue to give their fullest support to our airmen and women who are committed to defend our home, above all.”

Chairman of the Flying Display Committee Lieutenant-Colonel (LTC) Nick Wong Wai Him also shared his thoughts, “The RSAF team has put in a lot of effort over the past months to deliver a show befitting of this milestone year for the RSAF, and to celebrate the event with our fellow Singaporeans. We are also proud to be with our RSAF pioneers who helped forge a professional and competent RSAF from humble beginnings. Our success today is built on their foresight and sacrifices, and we will continue to uphold the sacred mission of safeguarding Singapore’s skies.”
