From the Editor’s Desk

Tempora mutantur nos et mutamur in illis.
(The times change, and we change with them.)

Since its birth on 1 Dec 2015, the Military Aviation Photography Singapore (MAphotoSG) group has grown from its initial core of 2 aviation photography enthusiasts to its current size of 11. Each member brings with them varying degrees of experiences and knowledge, but all share the common intrest in aviation and photography.

As we enter our 2nd year, the environments and activities are changing, and we have to similarly change and adapt to them. Here, I would like to introduce the changes and directions that we are pursuing now, to enable us to better serve you, our readers and followers.

1. EDITORIAL CHANGES TO ARTICLES
A major change undergoing now will be to the editorial direction of our articles. Our past articles have been focused on bringing as much dynamic and exciting photos as possible through our coverage of such events. While the heart of the group is still on aviation photography as a main activity, there is a growing need to move our articles beyond it.

The group recognises this, and will be embarking on writing articles with a focus on more in-depth and technical subjects. We hope this will allow our readers to not only enjoy the photos, but to gain more insight and knowledge through the articles.

2. NEW THEMES
Currently our articles have a thematic focus on airshows and events, which are ideal environments for aircraft photography. However, they do not usually present much detailed information, which hinders the depth of the article itself.

We will now have a focus on other themes for our articles, be it interviews, places of aviation interest, history, technical development and even non-military aviation. We hope that this will enable a wider audience of readers to interact with us and enjoy the photos at the same time.

3. REIGNITING
The group has existing relationships with other aviation interest groups, both locally and overseas, but we recognise that we are not actively engaging with them. We will be reigniting our relationships with them, to pursue and grow the aviation interest, both here and across the pond. We hope this will enable a broader range of subjects and materials to be featured on our website for our local readers.

4. ONLINE PHOTO GALLERY
Over the course of our activities, we have received enquiries from both the public and organisations about purchasing and using our photos. We need to have a platform for such enquiries and purchases to be done on a consistent and timely manner as opposed to our manual processes currently.

With this in mind, we have selected the SmugMug online platform to host our gallery which allows for viewing and purchasing of selected photos from our group. We hope that this will enable an easy, 24×7 platform which everyone can make use of.

Our gallery can be viewed at http://gallery.maphotosg.com/

To enable a consistent point of focus and to drive the group changes that we have set out, as Editor of the group, I will be leading the direction. These changes will be observed and finetuned to ensure we stay on course.

To that extent, I would like to issue an invite to you, our readers and followers, for any ideas or feedback that you may have for our group. The interest in aviation cuts across all ages and demographics, so whether you are a 6-year old child or an 80-year old veteran, we want to hear from you.

Also, do stay tuned to our website as we will be at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition 2017 to bring you the latest news and exciting photos of the events.

I apologise if you will be visiting our website more often than usual from now on…but hey, isn’t that a good thing?
