With the local Covid situation largely in control, the 8th edition of the biennial Singapore Airshow was held at the Changi Exhibition Centre from 15-18 February 2022. This was the biggest event to be organised here since Singapore exited its circuit breaker period in 2020. This year saw almost 600 participating companies from more than 39 countries and regions, with more than 70% of the top 20 global aerospace companies represented. Over four days of strategic dialogues, networking and collaborations on many fronts were held alongside the static and flying display. It was also the first time in Singapore Airshow’s history that no public days were scheduled and the approximately 13,000 trade visitors have to be pre-registered.
Visitors enjoyed seven exciting daily aerial display which included the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) with their two-ship AH-64D Apaches and solo F-16C Viper displays, the Indian Air Force (IAF) HAL Tejas Mk 1 Light Combat Aircaft, Airbus A350-1000, the United States Marine Corp (USMC) F-35B Lightning II, Boeing 777-9, and perennial favourites Jupiter Aerobatic Team from the Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU). A United States Air Force B-52H Stratofortress also performed aa flyover at the conclusion of the flying display on Day 3.
Over at the static display area, more than 50% of the space was taken up by Airbus aircraft, with the A350-900, A330neo, A220, A400M Atlas, A330 MRTT, and making its airshow debut, the RSAF H225M medium lift helicopter. The next largest group of static assets were from the Republic of Singapore Air Force which put up seven assets, including the F-15SG Strike Eagle, ASTER 30 Missile System and Hermes 450 Unmanned Aerial Vehicle. Embraer, Dassault, Piaggio, Honda and Bell also were represented through their aircraft, and the United States Air Force (USAF) and Navy (USN) by their P-8A Poseidon, KC-46A Pegasus and F-35A Lightning IIs.
While this year’s Singapore Airshow was considerably less quantitatively, it was not short on the quality aspects. With the global situation improving, we look forward to a more exciting Singapore Airshow when it returns in 2024!
Do enjoy and relive the airshow through these captures by our MAphotoSG Team.
