Republic Of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) 53rd Air Demonstration Group Black Eagles
Returning for an encore performance at the Singapore Airshow 2016, the Black Eagles (블랙이글스) once again demonstrated their exciting and dynamic aerobatic sequences which won them the King Hussein Memorial Sword for the Best Overall Flying Demonstration at RIAT 2012.
Equipped with the KAI Golden Eagle T-50 supersonic trainer since 2009, the team took delivery of the T-50B version in 2010. This version has an improved multi-colour smoke system, several camera locations and dedicated wing-tip mounted smoke generator and lighting pods. The new gloss black with upper-white and lower-yellow eagle pattern colour scheme was also introduced with the T-50B.
The Black Eagles kept their sequences fluid as the spectators attention was directed from point to point with not much interval time in between. As always, the highlight of any Black Eagles performance was the depiction of the South Korean national symbol, the Taegeuk, which always drew a loud round of applause.
With another successful appearance this year, dare we hope for their return in 2018 for a triumvirate of performances at the Singapore Airshow?
