Deep Sixing In Progress

HNY2022

The last 12 months have been a whirlwind of changing regulations and social practices as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a part of our daily lives. This has also caused disruptions to businesses and looks to continue into the new year. However, with the increase in vaccination numbers, and the slow shifting from a pandemic to endemic status, a very slight level of normality is coming back towards 2022.

It has been also a fairly quiet year for the MAphotoSG team, as there have been cancellations and postponement of various events, both local and overseas. Even when events proceeded, a sizeable amount of the events have taken place in the virtual space due to the restrictions. On the local front, the National Day Parade 2021 experienced an unprecedented format change into two separate events as the cases ramped up.

Against this backdrop, the team has also taken another backseat similar to last year, with the rare instances when we stepped out to take shots of interest, as the impractical realities of travel has definitely put a lot of plans on hold. However, with the opening up of travel through VTL lanes from the Singapore end, there are strong possibilities of covering some overseas events next year, and we are preparing for it.

The biennial Singapore Airshow returns for the 2022 edition, albeit with only trade days and no public days. There is also a strong possibility of the National Day Parade returning with a much larger live audience capacity as the situation improves. Overall, there is much optimism for 2022 and we’re looking forward to it as we prepare to deep six the pandemic in our sixth year.

From our families to yours, keep well, stay safe, and let’s roar in the Year of the Tiger.

Happy New Year and 2022!
