Army Open House 2022 – Preview

The Army Open House (AOH) will be returning back to the F1 Pit for its third edition since 2007, from the 28-30 May 2022. Celebrating the double-five anniversary of National Service (NS), this year’s theme is “Generations of Strength”, and it comprises of three main events: AOH22@F1 Pit Building, AOH22@Heartlands, and the AOH22 Virtual Exhibition (16 May–12 June). The MAphotoSG Team visited the media preview and here’s what you can expect when it opens on 28 May.

There will be 13 zones spread across the F1 Pit area, which will feature and highlight the people, assets and capabilities of the Singapore Army.

1) Our Army Platforms – Over 20 military platforms will be on static display to showcase the Army’s combat, combat support and combat service support capabilities. The public will be able to get up close to learn more about them from the on-site Army personnel.

2) Army Formations Zone – The public will be able to learn about the various Army formations through the informational and experiential booths, where they can try the weapons and equipment unique to each formation.

3) NS55 Showcase – To celebrate the 55th anniversary of NS, three zones will be featured in the showcase: NS through the Generations, The Strength Within, and In Appreciation. The zones illustrate the evolution of NS, and the achievements of NSmen in defending and safeguarding the nation through augmented-reality exhibits, interactive displays, and a 4D multisensory show.

4) Kids Zone – Younger visitors will be engaged with activities such as a mini obstacle course, balloon sculpting and camo face painting, virtual Army uniforms photo sessions, and complete it with a mini campsite and jungle maze.

5) Technology Zone – The Army and its defence partners will showcase future technologies that will be used in the battlefields of tomorrow.

6) Experience The Night – Utilising Night Vision Goggles (NVG), visitors will be able to take part in an immersive simulated night mission, complete with sights, sounds and smells.

7) Drone Arena – Visitors are invited to bring and fly their drones (below 250g) in an indoor enclosure, which requires an online booking of a flying slot.

8) Be A Marksman – Utilising the Army’s SAR 21 rifle equipped with Smart Magazine, visitors can try their hands on the firing range, or take part in Force on Force team battles.

9) Battle Rides – Always a favourite with the public, the Terrex, Bionix, PRV, M3G and CH-47SD Chinook platforms offer the full range of land, sea and air experiences.

10) Soldier Strong Arena – Learn how sports science and technology allowed the Army to transform their fitness program to train fit and strong soldiers through exercises and informative lessons. Visitors can also test themselves with tyre-pull and push-up challenges.

11) Soldier Strong Obstacle Course – Families are encouraged to take part in this obstacle course to test the mettle and unleash their inner warriors, and will ensure memorable family moments for both adults and kids. Stations include the Tye Field, Olympus, Ramp, Swing Trainer and Spider Wall.

12) Army Showcase – The showcase features Day and Night performance segments, which will feature the SAF Red Lions, Street Parade and a Military Tattoo performance.

13) Main Stage – So Drama! Entertainment will take to the stage to entertain visitors with musical performances by their artistes, alongside the SAF Band performances, Close Combat Display and Formation Sharing segments.

 

AOH22@Heartlands

After the F1 Pit, AOH22 will move into the heartlands at Punggol (3-5 June) and Bishan (10-12 June). In the heartlands, the activities will include the Army Formations, Soldier Strong Arena, Kids Zone, Experience The Night and Be A Marksman.

AOH22 Virtual Exhibition

The AOH22 Virtual Exhibition can be accessed at http://go.gov.sg/AOH22 and features interactive online activities, games and key highlights livestreams of AOH22. The virtual exhibition will run from 16 May to 12 Jun 2022.

AOH22 Visiting Tips

  • As the majority of AOH22 takes place under open skies, please remember to stay hydrated or be prepared for inclement weather.
  • Please do wear covered footwear for activities such as Soldier Strong and Battle Rides.
  • While children can participate in most activities, do take note of the minimum 1.2M height requirements, for example at Battle Rides.
  • To ensure the safety of all, please follow the safety guidelines at the various event zones.
